SISTER SANDRA MAKOWSKI, SSMN, JCL

Hello, Let me introduce myself.

My name is Sandra Makowski. I am a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur. I entered this religious congregation in Buffalo, New York ,and lived most of my religious life in New York. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Trinity College in Washington, DC, and my Masters in Religious Education from Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. I also received a licentiate degree in canon law from the same University in 1989. I have been a member of the Canon Law Society of America since 1989 and served on the study committee for Canonical Advocacy for a period of three years. I served as Tribunal Judge for the Diocese of Buffalo from 1989-2006. I have conducted numerous workshops and training sessions for Tribunal auditors and parish administrators on the topic of church annulments and marriage law. I also taught courses on canon law at Christ the King Seminary, in East Aurora, NY. I am a certified mediator, and have worked with separated/divorced Catholics since 1976.
I have interviewed over 2000 people during my 20 years at the tribunal. I have listened to the stories of people’s pain and helped and encouraged them in their effort to learn how to forgive themselves and their former spouse in the process of recovery.

FATHER JOSEPH KLOS, JCL

Hello, let me introduce myself.

My name is Joseph Klos.  I am a priest from the Diocese of Buffalo, NY.  I was born, raised, and educated in Poland.  I was incardinated for the Buffalo, NY Diocese in 1995.  I have served as parochial vicar and pastor in the Buffalo diocese since 1988.

I received my Masters in Theology from the University of Warsaw in 1985, and my licentiate degree in canon law from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, in 2002.  I have served as Tribunal Judge since 2002- present.

I have conducted numerous workshops for the diocese on church law, as well as seminars on the annulment process.  I have also lectured extensively on canon law.  I was a teacher and lecturer at Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, NY, teaching canon law, as well as lecturing on topics related to the role of laity in church leadership and church administration.

I have interviewed over 500 people with regard to the annulment process.  I have seen first-hand the pain and heartache of those suffering and grieving their divorce and have attempted to help them in dealing with their loss and in re-discovering hope again for a new kind of future.
